Kautz Racing is Tim’s other passion when he’s not at the Euroquipe shop. With sponsorship from Braeburn Systems and Hoosier Racing Tires, he races a Piper Formula F-Formula 1600 car in events from New York to California.
Formula f-Formula 1600 is a highly competitive racing class for open-wheel racing cars. The class, originally called Formula Ford because they used the 1600cc English Ford Kent engine, was established over 45 years ago as a starter class for young drivers. Because the cars all share the same specification tires and engines, it showcases driver talent rather than the car. Many of the biggest names in Formula 1 and IndyCar racing came up through the ranks via this class and it remains a major stepping stone to higher classes. Often these races are decided by tenths of a second among five or six potential winners. The name changed to Formula F-1600 came about when the sanctioning groups decided to allow the use of the more readily available modern Honda Fit motor.
Tim has competed successfully in this class, winning three Sports Car Club of America National Championships and coming within a whisker of taking the F-1600 professional series title as well. The meticulous preparation and mental focus required to compete at this high level are traits that Tim carries over into the way he runs the business and our philosophy repairing the vehicles in our shop.” LEARN MORE
